About Training
Safety and Training Joint Effort

The key to any construction project is well trained, highly skilled, safe and efficient workers and those workers must be trained on whatever method or technology they are using to be safe. Safety training is not limited to personal protective equipment and fall protection; rather it is an intrinsic component of all tasks being performed. Workers do not become highly skilled, safe and efficient without training, nor do they remain current with new technology without retraining. Union contractors can offer this highly skilled, safety compliant, work force because of the training the employees receive from their perspective union and the training they receive from the contractor they are employed with. These programs combine both classroom and on the job training, in a manner that maximizes the needed skills for learning construction trades.

Typical Training for Union Trade Workers
The training program for all union crafts begins with the Apprenticeships program. Apprenticeship programs are registered with State and Federal agencies to ensure that the training programs result in highly skilled craft workers. The classroom component of these programs cover a wide range of topics from OSHA and MSHA required courses to optical alignment, pressure welding and electrical circuitry. The information learned in the classroom is then carried to the job site where the practical application of the classroom material is put into action. The training does not stop upon the completion of a three or four year apprenticeship, rather the unions provide life long training for all of their members due to ever-changing technology and regulations. Unions require their members to remain current with safety training required by OSHA and MSHA as well as operator training on state of the art equipment.

Typical Job Site Safety
Construction Site Safety can be defined by the ability of the contractor to provide their skilled work force with the tools and engineering to complete the job on time, injury and accident free. This could not be possible without the contractor's total commitment to safety or without the highly skilled employees provided by the union apprenticeship programs.
